As far as I know, in parachute jumps, the parachute is usually big enough to slow down the falling speed so one can land on two feet. This is seen frequently at American football games when a stuntman drops down in a parachute. In other parachute jumps, especially from higher altitudes, say jumping out of an airplane, the altitude, wind, and the size of the parachute relative to the jumper’s body weight all affect the landing. The landing may be a bit faster than the landing of a stunt parachute jump. Therefore, a roll is the safe way to land from a high altitude jump.
