The bones of the feet could break upon a strong impact from a fall against a hard surface. So one way to fall without breaking the foot would be (1) to hit the ground and immediately roll forward or (2) to land on the side with the upper arm hitting the ground first. The first type of landing is seen in kung fu movies. The second type of landing is often seen in soccer. The second type of landing is what I teach in isotonic rehabilitation and physical therapy for the rehabilitation of coordination of leg movements due to incoordination of leg movements resulting from spinal cord injuries from automobile accidents, Progressive Supranuclear Palsy, etc.
