Why legs tense up whilst walking?

In response.

Legs tense up whilst walking because the leg muscles are already fatigued before walking began. The leg muscles have not relaxed enough from previous exercises. As one starts walking, the leg muscles tense up again, and since they are already fatigued, they have to tense up even more that previously. let the leg muscles relax more fully before going on the next walk.
