Why does baking soda work on athlete’s foot?

In response.

Baking soda is a very strong dehydrating agent. It sucks moisture out. Tinea pedis exists and survives in a moist environment between the toes. When the area between the toes is dry, either by wearing open toed sandals or when baking soda is applied, the moist environment in which tinea pedis can survive is destroyed.
