Bitter melon and kidneys

In response.

Bitter melon is considered a “cool” food in Chinese medicine. It is alkaline. As such, bitter melon reduces blood pressure, reduces bad cholesterol, reduces acidity in the blood, in the urine and in the kidneys and the liver.

High acidity in the urine indicates an unhealthy kidney.

Foods that increase acidity in the urine damage the kidneys. Too much pork and too much beef increase urine acidity. A diet of a lot of meat and dairy based foods damages the kidneys and increases bad cholesterol. They are extremely unsafe for the kidneys.

Foods that reduce urine acidity, like bitter melon, bitter melon tea, teas that reduce blood pressure, and a vegetarian diet are safe for the kidneys.
