Thinking at the critical moment of action

A recent study indicated that thinking at the critical moment of taking action messes up the action.

This is nothing new. Almost all professional athletes in all sports know that focus and concentration, i.e., not thinking, is crucial for a successful performance. Thinking at the moment of taking action is the worst thing one can do. It is a matter of losing focus and concentration at the moment of action.

At that moment, as the study suggests, the action does not require thinking. The body is primed to take action without further thought.

Kung fu masters also know this well. Before executing a strike, “Don’t think!”
