Alport syndrome

Alport syndrome is hereditary nephritis with end stage kidney disease.

Among 39 four generation family members of a Shenzhen family, 29 have kidney disease: 7 have died, 12 have been diagnosed as having kidney disease, 8 have been found to have latent Alport syndrome genes, and 2 have diabetes caused by Alport syndrome.

The mother-in-law is the first generation.  She gave birth to the second generation of 2 sons and 5 daughters.  They gave birth to the third generation of 5 sons and 6 daughters.  And they gave birth to the fourth generation of 13 sons and 7 daughters.  The mother of two of these daughters died of kidney disease on December 4, 2015, and the two daughters have been diagnosed as having Alport syndrome.
