Ten-day flu caused five-year-old boy to go blind

A five-year-old boy attending kindergarten in Mizhi county in Shaanxi province caught the flu during the second half of December, 2014 for ten days and developed pneumonia.  He also sent blind.  He was taken to Si’an and Beijing but doctors could do nothing.  On February 25, 2015, he was hospitalized at the Honghui Hospital in Mizhi county.  According to the chief eye doctor at the hospital, the flu virus caused optic neuritis, and this in turn caused the kid to go blind.  There is damage to his optical nerves, and his eyesight in both eyes was reduced to 0.06.  Over the past month and a half, his eyesight has gradually improved to 0.2 at present.  According to another doctor, optic neuritis can be caused by measles, parotitis and appendicitis.
