Two proposals to alleviate Taiwan’s labor shortage
Taiwan has a severe labor shortage. Each job seeker has two job choices. Two solutions have been proposed, one by president-elect Tsai Ing-wen and the other by the Taichung municipal bureau of labor.
President-elect Tsai Ing-wen proposed on February 26, 2016, in Changhua, to encourage 18-year-olds who have just graduated from high school to enter apprenticeship before pursuing a college education.
The Taichung municipal bureau of labor is proposing a monetary reward program for hiring middle aged and seniors. The monthly reward has been set at NT$20,008 for each new hire who is middle aged or a senior.
