Where are the missing foreign workers?
There are currently 51,224 foreign workers missing in Taiwan, and the Taiwanese authorities do not know their whereabouts. And 44.72% or 22,905 of them are Indonesians who have come to Taiwan as laborers and domestic helpers but are now missing.
Taiwan has a large population of foreign workers, estimated to be over 220,000 from various Southeast Asian countries, particularly from Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Thailand and Vietnam.
Chungli near Taoyuan and Kaohsiung have concentrations of foreign workers. It is said that the largest Vietnamese community in East and Southeast Asia outside of Vietnam is now in Kaohsiung with a population of 10,000 Vietnamese brides. In Chungli, signs in Vietnamese, Thai, Laotian Indonesian and Filipino abound.
