Acute viral hepatitis A

Since the beginning of 2016, Taiwan has had 275 cases of acute viral hepatitis A.  Patients are between 18 and 39 years old, and 50% of them suffer from a combination of acute viral hepatitis A and HIV infection.  Of the 275 cases as of May 15, 2016, 33.8% of the patients live in New Taipei City, 28% live in Taipei City, 12.3% live in Taichung city, 9.1% live in Taoyuan City.

Taiwan’s clinical studies show that the anti-hepatitis A vaccine can last for 24.5 to 30 years.  However, most children born after 1978 have not had any anti-hepatitis A vaccine inoculations.
