Extremely nearsighted driver kills woman
At 1:30 a.m. on August 3, 2016, a man driving a green sedan was driving home after work. After passing an intersection for 600 meters, a motorcycle rider rode up along side the sedan, knocked on the window, and flagged down the car. The rider then told the driver: Hey! There is a person on top of your car! The driver got out of the car and saw a bleeding 77-year-old woman on top of his car. The woman was taken to the hospital where she died. The car’s front window was shattered and there was blood dripping down. The driver told police that he did not feel any impact and he did not see anything.
The driver told police that he is extremely nearsighted and he was not wearing glasses. He said that his nearsightedness in one eye is “800 degrees” (-8.00D) and “500 degrees” (-5.00D) in the other eye.
He was essentially driving almost blind at night without glasses.
