Taiwan to expand nanny and kindergarten care

According to Taiwan’s ministry of education, in the 2015 school year, 460,000 children between the ages of 2 and 5 are in kindergarten, constituting 58% of the total population of those between 2 and 5 years old.  Among those who attend kindergarten, 30% attend public kindergartens, nonprofit kindergartens and community kindergarten centers while 70% attend private kindergartens.  The government wants to raise the kindergarten attendance to 60% by 2020 with 40% attending public, nonprofit and community kindergartens.  The government also wants to expand nanny care and set up a public nanny care system, train community nannies, and utilize unused classrooms in schools for public kindergartens and nonprofit kindergartens.
