Illegal foreigners in Taiwan
Between January and June, 2016, Taiwan’s Immigration Administration of the Interior Ministry took in 16,791 foreigners who have overstayed in Taiwan, an increase of 19.2% over 2015.
Of the total, 51.4% or 8,631 are women and 48.6% or 8,160 are men. Among the total, 7,146 or 42.6% are Vietnamese, 6,480 or 38.6% are Indonesians, and 1,133 or 6.7% are from the Chinese mainland.
Of those apprehended, 60.6% of them are foreign workers who had come to Taiwan legally but went AWOL, ran away from their employment, and remained in Taiwan in hiding.
