Educational diplomacy and opportunities in Taiwan
Abel Bernal, rector of the Universidad Nacional de Asuncion, Paraguay, and 400 students, teachers and parents of 25 high schools in Asuncion attended a conference on Taiwan’s scholarship program for students of Paraguay to study in Taiwan. Attendance at the conference also included Salvadora Gimenez, Delma Mendez, Alejandro Sosa, Carlos Fleitas, Julio Arrua and Vivian Gunsett.
When President Tsai Ing-wen visited Paraguay at the end of June, 2016, she increased the number of scholarships for Paraguayan students from 14 to 28.
This summer, several national universities on Taiwan have been recruiting foreign students to study in Taiwan. The national universities are several years behind many private universities on Taiwan that have been recruiting foreign students for many years.
National Taiwan University is recruiting students from Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia and Vietnam. National Ching Hua University is recruiting in India. Ching Hua University plans to recruit Indian students for its Master’s and Ph.D. programs.
Chiao Tung University is recruiting high school students in Myanmar and the university will set up college preparatory classes for them.
The private Yuan Chi University offers one third of its class instruction in English.
