Taiwan’s high school volunteerism

A teacher at the Banchiao High School got together four teachers and a dozen high school students for a project dubbed the “Blue Sail Volunteer Corps”.  Its first project was to offer an English studies summer camp for elementary school students in Taitung.  In 2016, it has dispatched four teams to Miaoli, Tainan, Myanmar and Mongolia.

In Mongolia, the teacher took with her four Banchiao high school students and university students from Chengkung University and Chenli University to set up 3D printers, laser cutters and teach free software classes.  They are teaching elementary students to assemble and maintain 20 3D printers and laser cutters.  The team dispatched to Myanmar first learned to speak Burmese so they could set up a Chinese language library there and teach library management to the locals.
