Human clinical trial of BNCT of liver cancer expected in half a year

Taiwan’s National Tsing Hua University professor Chou Feng-ying and her research team expect to use the Boron Neutron Capture Therapy (BNCT) to treat liver cancer in human clinical trials in half a year.

Nuclear technician Liu Hung-ming of the Atomic Science and Technology Development Center at National Tsing Hua University explains that boron medication which is nontoxic to the human body is injected into the body and then irradiated with a neutron beam for 30 minutes.  The boron neutrons will accumulate where cancer cells gather, and by irradiating the boron neutrons, high energy particles are agitated to kill the cancer cells.
