In 2016, 53,850 married couples got divorced.  Among these cases, 18,098 couples had been married for less than 5 years, or 33.61%.

There were 11,124 couples divorced after being married for 5 to 9 years, or 20.66%.

In 2009, 57,223 couples or 28.38% divorced after being married for less than 5 years, and in 2007, 58,412 couples or 30.78% divorced after being married for less than 5 years.

The median age of a divorce in Taiwan is 7.82 years.  The divorce rate among couples of Taiwanese citizenship in 2016 was 8.98 per 1,000.  The divorce rate among couples of different nationalities in 2016 was 20.9 per 1,000.  The divorce rate among couples with one spouse who is from the Chinese mainland, Hong Kong and Macau is 18.12 per 1,000, and the divorce rate among couples with one spouse who is from a Southeast Asian country is 26.24 per 1,000.
