Taiwan’s cancer deaths increased

Taiwan’s Ministry of Health and Welfare says that in 2016, some 172,000 people died, an increase of 5.4% from 2015.  Among them, 27.7% or some 48,000 died from cancer and malignant tumor.  This is a year-on-year increase of 2%.

Among those who died of cancer in 2016, 9,000 died of lung cancer, a year-on-year increase of 1.5%.  Among those who died of cancer in 2016, 8,000 died from liver cancer, a year-on-year increase of 1.2%.  Among those who died of cancer in 2016, 6,000 died from colorectal cancer, a year-on-year increase of 0.5%.

In 2016, some 29,000 Taiwanese men died of cancer and some 19,000 women died of cancer.  Taiwan’s male cancer death rate was 249.4 per 100,000 men and Taiwan’s female cancer death rate was 157.2 per 100,000 women.  The male cancer death rate was 1.58651399 times that of the female cancer death rate.

Of those who died of cancer in 2016 on Taiwan, those 55-64 years old constituted 21.9%, those 65-74 years old constituted 22.2%, those 75-84 years old constituted 25.2%, and those over 85 years old constituted 13,8%.
