Taiwan finds EV-D68 case
The Ministry of Health and Welfare of Taiwan announced on September 5, 2017, a second case of the Enterovirus D68 infection of this year. It is a severe case of a two-year-old girl who showed symptoms in August with facial distortion and walking instability. There is no vaccine against Enterovirus D68.
In the week of August 27 to September 2, 2017, there were 14,091 cases of enterovirus infections, including the severe case of Enterovirus D68.
Since the beginning of 2017, there have been 9 cases of enterovirus infections with one death. The 9 cases consisted of 3 cases of the Coxsackie Virus A6, 2 cases of the Coxsackie Virus B3, 2 cases of the Echovirus (enteric cytopathic human orphan virus which belongs to the Enterovirus B group), 1 case of Coxsackie Virus A2, 1 case of the Enterovirus D68.
