Taiwan’s first “bionic man”

Taiwan’s first “bionic man”

In 2015, assistant professor of business administration at Chungshan University went hiking.  For yet unknown reason, necrosis of his lower legs and feet and hands occurred and required amputation of both his hands and his lower legs and feet.

In 2016, he was fitted with prosthetic legs and feet.  In March, 2017, he underwent a transplant operation for his hands.  A suitable donor was found, so the hands of the donor were grafted onto his forearms.  Side effects of the anti-rejection medication have now subsided, and he has gained dexterity in the fingers of his grafted hands.

Assistant professor Wang Chi-yuan now has two prosthetic legs and two transplanted and grafted human hands from a donor.
