Political correctness sacrifices public health
Taiwan’s Taoyuan City’s mayor has invited Japan’s Chiba Prefecture to participate in its 2017 agricultural produce exhibit. Chiba Prefecture is within the peripheral region of the Fukushima nuclear disaster zone.
A Yahoo Taiwan survey of 2,200 responses conducted from November 28 to December 1, 2017, about the Tsai Ing-wen government’s proposal to relax the limit on Fipronil from 5 ppb to 10 ppb and about the Tsai Ing-wen government’s proposal to import Japanese foodstuff from areas surrounding the Fukushima nuclear disaster zone shows that 5.6% support relaxing Fipronil limit, 91.6% oppose, 2.8% have no opinion, 86.9% are “worried about importation of Japanese foodstuff from areas surrounding the Fukushima nuclear disaster zone”, 12.3% are “not worried” and 0.8% “do not know”.
There are 95.5% who are “worried about the government’s food safety handling mechanism”, 3.3% are “not worried”, and 1.2% “do not know”. The survey respondents consisted of 73.9% men and 26.1% women.
