Taiwan’s internet crime

In 2017, there were 14,853 internet crimes committed, an increase of 11.2% from the number recorded in 2016.

They include 4,223 cases of internet fraud or 28.4% of the total, 2,323 cases of slander or 15.6% of total, and 2,146 cases of internet property rights violations or 14.4%.

In 2017, a total of 11,830 internet crime cases were solved, an increase of 23.5% from the number of internet crime cases solved in 2016.

A total of 11,963 criminals who had committed internet crimes were apprehended in 2017, an increase of 31.4% from the number of criminals who had committed internet crimes in 2016.

Among the criminals apprehended for internet crimes, 3,509 were 30-39 years old or 29.3% of the total, 2,622 were 24-29 years old or 21.9% of the total, and 2,494 were 18-23 years old or 20.8% of the total.
