In 2018, there were a total of 304,821 traffic accidents with 1,493 fatalities and 405,147 injured.

In 2017, there were a total of 296,826 traffic accidents with 1,517 fatalities and 296,826 injured.

A calculation of the fatality rates shows that in 2018, (1,493/304,821)%=0.4897957% and in 2017, (1,517/296,826)%=0.5110738%.

Major victim

The major traffic victim is one of Taiwan’s endangered species, the leopard cat, Prionailurus bengalensis chinensis, known as the rock tiger 石虎。  It is estimated that there are now only 500 leopard cats left on Taiwan.
