Taiwan’s second hand smoke

According to Taiwan’s ministry of health and welfare, outdoor public areas’s second hand smoke exposure rate from 2009 to 2017 increased from 34.3% to 49.8%.  In home second hand smoke exposure rate increased from 20.8% to 24.3%.

Smoking among adults was 22% in 2008, 20% in 2009, and 14% in 2017.

The second hand smoke exposure rate in indoor public places was 28% in 2008, 7.8% in 2009, and 5.3% in 2017.  This dramatic drop is due to the 2009 smoking ban in indoor public places.

The second hand smoke exposure rate in outdoor public areas where smoking is not banned was 36% in 2008, 34% in 2009, and 49% in 2017.

In home second hand smoke exposure was 26% in 2008, 20% in 2009, and 24% in 2017.
