Kindergarten de-privatization

Kindergarten de-privatization

As of July 26, 2019, 1,052 private kindergartens have registered to be de-privatized, thus providing service to 109,255 toddlers.  Registration for the 2019 school year ends on July 31, 2019.

In the 2019 school year, there are a total of 6,806 kindergartens taking care of 704,188 toddlers.   These include 2,631 public and nonprofit kindergartens serving 207,949 toddlers.  With the addition of the de-privatized kindergartens, there will be 3,683 low cost kindergartens, constituting 54.1% of the total number of kindergartens serving 317,204 toddlers, or 45.1% of all kindergarten aged toddlers in Taiwan.

Taiwan’s kindergarten de-privatization program is a government subsidy program that subsidizes kindergarten tuition to keep parental out of pocket monthly cost at no more than NT$4,500.

In addition, a government subsidy will be given to each child between 2 and 5 years old.  Beginning on August 1, 2019, government subsidies will be given to each child 2 to 5 years old.  Each child will be given NT$2500 per child per month.  If there are 3 children between 2 and 5 years old, each child will be given NT$3500 per child per month.
