Taiwanese needing long term care in 2026

Taiwanese needing long term care in 2026 will reach more than 770,000 seniors, 174,000 more than the 596,000 seniors who needed long term care in 2018.

In 1998, only 9 schools taught courses in physical therapy treatment and physical rehabilitation therapy.  They had 2,439 students.  In 2018, there were 19 schools with 10,588 students.

In 2018, 5,195 students pursued physical therapy studies (49.06% of 10,588), 2,160 students studying vocational therapy (20.4% of 10,588), 1,190 students studying speech therapy (11.239% of 10,588),  2,043 students studying “other types of physical therapy” (19.295% of 10,588).

[Master Chen says]

In 2018, Taiwan already had 596,000 seniors who need long term care.  Yet Taiwan has only 10,588 students of physical therapy and rehabilitation.

Taiwan’s 19 schools that provide training in physical therapy and physical rehabilitation should immediately recruit foreign students, including female Syrian refugees and their children and train them to become physical therapists and physical rehabilitation nurses.
